Personal Projects

There are many things that man can do. Among other things I like creating software. That has always been my hobby just as like as it is my job. This page provides some overview of my past, current and future projects.

Commodore 64

Last year I kind of started to feel some sentiment for long time gone generation of 8-bit computers. Commodore 64. It used to be my first truly own computer. It represents the most beautiful period of my life that was however so long time ago.

I used to own this computer for some time around the year 1990. Most of the time I was playing games - but one spot stayed in my memory clearly - the moment when I successfully programmed my first sorting algorithm - turned out to be bubble sort - which I realized only later. Although Commodore 64 was not my first computer and I had it only for a short period of two years it definitely left deep footprint in my life.

Many years later I came across an eBay item offering a Commodore 64 to sell. As I no longer had mine because it had to go in 1991 I decided that I will recall those days of my childhood and buy it for me. So this is how it started.

Possible future projects

Robot Karel

Robot Karel (Karel the Robot) used to be usually as for many other developers of my generation the first programming language. Now I am thinking more and more about reimplementing the language in the traditional interactive interpreter with 3D visualisation just like it used to be available on PMD 85.

My son is now approaching the age when I think some basic programming could attract his interest and as I was not able to find a version that could run nicely on our home mac (either in the browser or on mac desktop) and would be accompanied with good didactic examples it came to my mind that I could make a port of some older codebase. Not saying that adding few additions just as multi-player could be lot of fun too.
